Register for the 2017 French Creek
Summer Solstice Sojourn!

The French Creek Summer Solstice Sojourn is Saturday, June 17.  We'll be paddling from Shaw's Landing to Utica, a total distance of about 12 river miles.  The day will be packed with fun, education, and great food!  We'll hear about the geology of French Creek, some of the significant archeological finds along this  stretch of French Creek, and we'll also learn about Cochranton and Utica, two communities in the Creek Town program, and some of the wonderfully unexpected things they have to offer!

This year's sojourn is a single day and will conclude at French Creek Farm in Utica, where dinner will be provided.   If you wish spend the night and camp, we invite you to make arrangements directly with French Creek Farm.

Curious what it might be like?  The sojourn is different every year, but this video courtesy of  Video Veritas and Current Connections Media Group will give you a good idea!

Some details about the 2017 Sojourn:

  • Sojourn participants are required to provide all of their own paddling and camping equipment, and USCG approved PFDs must be properly worn at all times on the water.
  • Safety boaters will be accompanying participants on the water and staff will be available, but participants should be able to manage personal care and mobility independently or with assistance of a companion.  Participants also should be able to follow instructions and effectively communicate independently or with the assistance of a companion. While every measure will be taken to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip for participants, participants will understand and accept that there are inherent risks associated with water sports.
  • Weather and water conditions in June (or at any time) can be unpredictable, and at times we have been asked about rescheduling the weekend when water levels look questionable.  Because of the amount of planning, people, and time scheduling that goes into this event, it is not possible to change the weekend.  We will have alternate activities and fun planned in the case that weather or conditions prevent safe paddling, and we are unable to issue refunds should that occur.
  • Participants under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The sojourn is not for children age 8 and under.
  • No pets are permitted on the sojourn.
  • The cost of the Sojourn is $45 per person for French Creek Valley Conservancy members and $70 per person for non-members.
  • Your registration will be confirmed and your spot secured when your payment is received.  If you mail or drop off your payment it must be received within one week of your registration.
  • Registration packets will be mailed to participants in May or after registration is confirmed.
  • The deadline for online signup is June 2nd and payment must be received by June 9th.  Cancellations after June 9th are non-refundable.  You may send someone in your place but we ask that they have similar paddling skills as you and understand all the registration requirements and sojourn policies.
  • A separate registration form must be filled out for each person.  If you are going with another person we recommend you both register at the same time.  If the sojourn fills up and the second person is not registered, it is likely we will not be able to accommodate your friend.

If you have any questions, e-mail or call (814) 337-4321.
